In nature, the term dabbler is most often associated with ducks that forage at the surface of water rather than diving. Here it refers to my tendency to stay at the surface in exploring a variety of art media. Artists often confess to hoarding art supplies. I prefer to think of that tendency as as a means of using up the ridiculous cache* of art supplies I collected in the early days of exploring art as a hobby.
*Another fine ecological term used to describe an animal behavior of storing food for later consumption.
